Zizhen Wang reports a new study in the Clinical Journal of Chinese Medicine which concludes that acupuncture combined with a special herbal formula produces more positive patient outcomes for rheumatoid arthritis sufferers and significantly outperforms NSAID drugs. The acupuncture and herbal medicine group had an overall effective rate of 95.08% and the drug group had an effective rate of 68.85%. Adverse side-effects were reported by 18.0% of the drug and only 3.2% of the acupuncture group. The researchers concluded that acupuncture with herbs is safer and more effective than NSAIDs combined with methotrexate.
